TATA Steel
Manlift provides solutions to Tata Steel for working safely and efficiently at height. Tata Steel used to be a large user of scaffolding for maintenance of technical installations. Disadvantages were high costs and many suppliers on site. Therefore Manlift presented Tata Steel a new way of working: a single supplier of high quality powered access with a depot on site that provides 24/7 service. Resulting in a safer working environment and cost savings

The customer
Tata Steel is Europe’s second largest steel producer, with steel making in the UK and the Netherlands, and manufacturing plants across Europe. The company supplies products and services to the most demanding markets, including construction, automotive, packaging and aerospace. Working with almost 150 (sub)contractors, Tata Steel was a large user of scaffolding for maintenance of technical installations. All using different suppliers. Tata Steel was looking for a solution to reduce costs as well as the on-site traffic caused by the high number of suppliers.
The solution
Manlift presented a new way of working and has been the powered access provider at Tata Steel.
What is changed:
- Using powered access instead of scaffolding. Working with powered access is safer: fall hazards occur in 99% of the cases with stairs, ladders or scaffolding. Another benefit is that, powered access can be used immediately and once the job is done there is no dismantling and storage to be done. This saves time and costs.
- Tata Steel together with its (sub) contractors daily use approximately 60 machines. In order to solve the problem of the high number of suppliers, Manlift is now the exclusive supplier of powered access with a depot on-site.
- For maintenance of technical installations Tata Steel needed powered access that could reach in-between walls. Manlift customized special L-shaped working baskets and mounted those on two ultrabooms, which enables work in confined spaces.
Benefits for the customer
The solutions Manlift provides saves Tata Steel 30% of their spend on access equipment. The transition to powered access equipment, including training of employees, has made working at height safer. By realizing a depot on site the number of suppliers and transport distance is minimized. There is less traffic at the gate and transport costs are reduced to a minimum. Besides that Manlift offers consistent quality of equipment and service 24/7, 365 days a year.
